What is the function of the pump? A pump is a device or machine that is used to move fluids from one place to another through a piping medium by adding energy to the fluid that is moved and continues continuously. And a pump operates with the principle of making a pressure difference between the suction and the discharge. In other words, the pump functions to change the mechanical power from a source of energy (propulsion) to kinetic energy (speed), where this energy is useful for flowing fluids and overcoming obstacles that exist throughout the drainage.
In general, pumps can be classified into 2 parts, positive pump displacement and dynamic work pump.
Positive Displacement Pump or commonly called a positive action pump. This type of pump that utilizes mechanical energy from the rotation of the pump shaft is converted into pressure energy to pump fluid. At this type of pump produced a high head but the resulting capacity is low.
Centrifugal Pump (Dynamic Pump / Centrifugal Pump) is a type of pump that has the main element of a motor with impeller rotating at high speed. The incoming fluid is accelerated by an impeller which increases fluid speed and pressure and throws out volut.
